We first met Bertha at a PetSmart, on a day we stopped in on a whim. She was the largest and most glorious hamster we have ever seen. We were absolutely enamored with her, and although we hadn’t planned on getting a pet anytime soon, we couldn’t stop thinking about her. A week later we returned and took her home. It took her a little to warm up to us, but eventually she ventured out and explored her enclosure. One of my favorite times with her is when I’d put some food on my hand, she’d climb up on and we would hold hands for a few minutes. Her favorite thing was dried strawberries. She lived a life of comfort and ease, and will be missed greatly. I hope hammy heaven has enough berries.
